Are the Virtues of Yemen Restricted to the Prophet’s Lifetime? | Shaykh Ḥussain al-Ḥaṭībī

This (questioner) says, “One of the preachers from the Ḥizb of Zakariyyā Ṣalāhī al-Hindī, when he speaks about the Ahlus-Sunnah, says, mentioning the ḥadīth, ‘The belief is that of the Yemenis and wisdom is Yemeni.’1 The people of Yemen mentioned in this ḥadīth are the people of the Ḥijāz and the Anṣār. This has been transmitted via the words of scholars. The words of al-Ḥāfidh (ibn Ḥajar), Ibn aṣ-Ṣalāh and a group (of scholars). He says the borders of Yemen have changed a lot because of the wars…”

Does he mean that the current-day Yemen, belongs to Australia, or what? Ok, the boundaries have changed. What does it mean? What was Yemen affiliated with earlier? Did it belong to Australia or Indonesia? A lot of (vain) speech…

(Question continued)“…It changed a lot because of the wars. Therefore, the virtue belongs to those who lived in those times.” He says, “The Ḥouthis who send missiles to Makkah, do they enter into this hadīth?  Alongside that they belong…

In reality, it’s a lot of (vain) speech. These are the words of those who are trialed. If you mention the virtues of the people of Yemen, it is not intended by it the Rāfidhah. It is never intended by it the Rāfidhah, but the righteous from amongst the people of Yemen. Indeed, it is not referring to the Yemen as per present-day borders, but they are included within it, not detached. Al-Ḥijāz remains and Yemen is removed?! The branch remains and the origin is absent. This is not correct. Rather it is said that what was referred to as Yemen includes these virtues. The Yemen that exists now and what was included within it like Oman, it was called Yemen up until Dhofar. Likewise some countries, what is to the right of the Kaʿbah was called Yemen, and these virtues are included in it. As for saying that it does not include those in the present, but only those from the predecessors, then this is also a judgment for which there is no evidence.2 The virtues of Yemen are general for those who were righteous and upright in the religion of Allāh the Almighty, adhering to the Qurʾān and the Sunnah according to the understanding of the predecessors of the Ummah.

And does the likes of these with ambiguous speech say that Uwais bin ʿĀmir al-Qaranī is from al-Ḥijāz? About whom the Prophet ﷺ, said, “The leader of the tābiʿīn will come to you, Uwais bin ʿĀmir al-Qaranī,”3 and he is from Maʿrib from Murād.  He came in the time of ʿUmar رضي الله عنه, to the Prophet’s city, Madinah.

But I don’t know what they really want, Zakariyya Ṣalāhī and his students or those who ascribe to him. They are a people who have tamyīʿ and they have greatly diluted the Salafi daʿwah. They incline to ʿUbayd Al-Jābirī and those from that group. So do not bother with their words, nor with this speech that they come with.

Then he says, “Is this (virtue) only with Shaykh Muqbil and his students? Are the rest of Shaykh Muqbil’s students included, or is this only in Al-Ḥajūrī and his companions?”

A lot of (vain) speech. That which is correct, as was heard earlier, is that the righteous among the people of Yemen are included in these virtues that were mentioned in this ḥadīth and in others, and they are not exclusive to a specific time or to a specific group. Rather, the righteous (from the people of Yemen) enter into the virtues of Yemen in general.

As for the one who shows Tamyīʿ, he begins by insulting the Ahlus-Sunnah, in order to be accepted by the Mutamayyiʿ (those who have watered down the religion), and for this reason Al-Aḥmadī, the one who plays games, the first thing he began to speak at Maʿbar, began to curse and slander those who spoke against Maʿbar, in order to be accepted by Muḥammad al-Imām. So he started with this gift!

  3. Dr. Faisal al-Wādi’ī in his book, Kanz al-Atfāl, while answering the question no.576, “Who is the leader of the Tābiʿīn?” answered:
The leader of the Tābiʿīn in knowledge is Saʿīd bin Al-Musayyib رحمه الله as mentioned by the scholars of biographies, such as Ibn Hibban in “Al-Thiqat” and Al-Mizzi in “Tahdheeb Al-Kamal” and Ibn Hajar in “Al-Isābah fi Tamyīz As-Sahābah” and in worship and abstinence is Uwais al-Qaranī رحمه الله and the evidence is the hadīth reported by Umar bin al-Khattab that: I heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Worthy amongst the successors would be a person who would be called Uwais. He would have his mother (living with him) and he would have (a small) sign of leprosy. Ask him to beg pardon for you (from Allah). Sahih Muslim 2542
