⚠ Benefit:
If ʿEīd and the Friday prayer coincides, then whoever performs the ʿEīd prayer, the obligation of Friday prayer is waived from him[1], and he should perform the Dhuhr prayer alone in its place[2].
As has been established in Sunan Abū Dāwūd and Ibn Mājah on the authority of Abū Hurayrah -may Allāh be pleased with him- that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said:
❝Two festivals (ʿEīd and Friday) have coincided on this day of yours. So whoever wants, that (the ʿEīd prayer) will suffice him (from praying Ṣalātul Jumuʿah). But we shall gather (for the Friday prayer).❞

And it was reported by Abū Dāwūd with an authentic chain by way of ʿAṭāʾ bin Abī Rabāḥ:
Ibn az-Zubayr led us in the ʿEīd prayer on Friday, early in the morning. When we went to offer Ṣalātul Jumuʿah, he did not come out to us. So we prayed ourselves alone. At that time Ibn ʿAbbās was in aṭ-Ṭāʾif. So when he came to us, we mentioned this (incident) to him to which he said: “He followed the sunnah.”

⚠Attention:
By this it is not inferred that Ibn az-Zubayr did not pray Dhuhr at his house. This was mentioned by our Shaykh Muqbil Al-Wādiʿī in al-Jāmiʿ as-Ṣaḥīḥ Mimmā Laysa fī as-Ṣaḥīḥayn 5/215

Translator’s Footnotes:
1. The obligation is lifted even if one has not stayed for the khuṭbah. If one attends the Friday prayer as well, then that is more virtuous and greater in reward. However, the Imām still establishes the Friday prayer (Mentioned by Shaykh ʿAbdul ʿAzīz ar-Rājiḥī)
2. As for the one who did not attend the ʿEīd prayer, the obligation of the Friday prayer remains upon him. (Mentioned by Shaykh ʿAbdul ʿAzīz ar-Rājiḥī)

⚠ *فائدة* :
إذا اجتمعَ العيدُ والجمعة ، فمن صلَّى العيد ، سقطَ عنهُ وجوبُ الجمعة ، ويصلِّي مكانها صلاةَ الظهرِ وُحْدَاناً ، فقد ثبت في سنن أبي داود وابن ماجه من حديثِ أبي هريرةَ رضي اللهُ عنهُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلَّى اللهُ عليه وسلَّم أَنَّهُ قَالَ : ” قَدْ اجْتَمَعَ فِي يَوْمِكُمْ هَذَا عِيدَانِ ، فَمَنْ شَاءَ أَجْزَأَهُ مِنْ الْجُمُعَةِ ، وَإِنَّا مُجَمِّعُونَ ” ، وروى أبو داود بسندٍ صحيحٍ من طريق عطاء بن أبي رباح : ” صَلَّى بِنَا ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ فِي يَوْمِ عِيدٍ فِي يَوْمِ جُمُعَةٍ أَوَّلَ النَّهَارِ ، ثُمَّ رُحْنَا إِلَى الْجُمُعَةِ ، فَلَمْ يَخْرُجْ إِلَيْنَا ، فَصَلَّيْنَا وُحْدَانًا . وَكَانَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ بِالطَّائِفِ ، فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ ذَكَرْنَا ذَلِكَ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ : ” أَصَابَ السُّنَّةَ ” .
⚠تنبيه :
وليس معناهُ أنَّ ابنَ الزبير لم يصلِّ ظهراً في بيتِه . قالَهُ شيخُنا *مقبلٌ الوادعي* في ( الجامع الصحيح مما ليس في الصحيحين ) ( ٥ / ٢١٥ ) .
